One of the most powerful yet under utilized features of Infusionsoft is tagging. If you’re unfamiliar with tagging, think of it like labels you use for your friends. You can categorize who is married, who’s single, who has a truck when you’re moving and who has great advice when you’re stressed.
Tagging your clients and leads is very similar, it allows you to identify groups easily and target your message very personally.
Instead of broadcasting news of a 50% off sale for your new program offer to everyone on your list, you can now broadcast to everyone who hasn’t purchased (and paid 100%), those who have viewed the sales page and those who haven’t bought from you in 6 months.
When you set up tags it’s easy for them to get jumbled and messy so Infusionsoft lets you create Tag Categories for easier sorting. Here are a few examples:
Examples:
Customer > Kickstart Program
Customer is a tag category, Kickstart Program is a tag
Prospect > Private Coaching 6 mo program
Prospect is a tag category, Private Coaching 6 mo program is a tag
I use these examples because your contacts can be prospects and customers simultaneously for different products or services.
One of the reasons you want to get this specific is that you can create campaigns for different “loops” – here’s what I mean…
If you have 4 programs that are completely unrelated then you’ll have to target, convert and sell to 4 groups of clients. Which is both time consuming and expensive. But if you have 4 related products then you can build campaigns for each circumstance. To make it simple let’s do 4 products: beach blanket, wet suit, surfboard, sunglasses
Campaign 1: Purchased surfboard, upgrade to wet suit
Campaign 2: Purchased surfboard & wet suit, upgrade to glasses
Campaign 3: Purchased surfboard, wet suit & glasses, upgrade to blanket
Campaign 4: Purchased wet suit, upgrade to surfboard
Campaign 5: Purchased wet suit, surfboard & blanket, upgrade to glasses
And so on. For each new program or service or product you offer you’ll want to draw out these campaigns. Then you can use tagging to specify Campaign 1 goes to:
Customer > Surfboard
Prospect > Wet suit
Prospect > Glasses
Prospect > Blanket
Do you see how well this could work in sending just the right message to the right segment of your list?
Now, you don’t just want to include purchasing decisions because Infusionsoft can track so much more. What if you sent messages based on who has watched a video, clicked a link, viewed your sales page or shared your program on social media? How would your business change if you didn’t email to clients who had bad credit card history, who perpetually requested refunds or who verbally abused your customer service team?
There are many tags and tag categories you can use, get a comprehensive list of 12 categories you should be using here.
